PURPOSE
A. To allow a manufacturer to attach a small product to a stiff paper card and print the
product information on the paper card for the customers to see.
B. To provide the retailer a means of displaying products to the customer by using hooks
or peg board to hang the packages. Product is held and/or grouped together inside a clear
semi-rigid plastic cavity (shell).

MACHINES AND PROCESS
A machine is used to heat the backs of pre-cut / pre-printed blister cards which allows
the treated adhesive on the cards to adhere to the lip flange on a clear semi-rigid
plastic cavity within which the product has been placed. Usually a flat heated plate is
lowered down onto the tool containing the blisters and blister cards adhering them
together as one packaged unit.
A tool is created and placed inside of a tray sealer or
mounted to a conveyor unit. The tool consists of multiple cut-outs with a rubber
gasket outlining each with dimensions equaling that of the blister cavity being used. The
tool allows you to maximize your production within the given sealer dimensions. (example:
twelve 4" x 6" blister cards may be placed onto a tool built for a 20" x
20" seal area)
A tray type sealer has a tray within which the aforementioned
tool is placed. The product is loaded in and the blister cards placed within the spring
loaded guide posts. The tray is pushed under the heated plate which is pneumatically
lowered over the tool for an adjustable period of time to complete the seals.
Once complete, the plate retracts and the tray is moved out
to retrieve the completed product packages. When using a dual-sided tray sealer, one tray
can be sealed while the other station is loading the next tool with blisters, product, and
blister cards to be sealed.
Conveyorized units operate the same way as above, but the
tools are mounted onto the conveyor belt and can be loaded while advancing towards the
sealing plate. Once sealed and the conveyor advances forward, the product can fall into a
box or out-feed conveyor as the belt turns over. Having multiple tools mounted to the
conveyor, the returning tools flip up on the other end empty and ready to receive the next
batch of blisters to be sealed.
Skin Packaging: Items are vacuumed tight against a card that is
completely covered by the plastic.

Blister Packaging: Items are enclosed in rigid
PVC, a card is sealed against the PVC to form a loose fitting enclosure.
